San Francisco is a city and a metropolitan area in the US state of California on the west coast of the United States on the Pacific Ocean. With 805,000 inhabitants, it is the fourth largest city in California. Compared to similar cities such as Frankfurt am Main or Amsterdam, it is a medium-sized world city. The name of the town is of Spanish origin. San Francisco is named after St. Francis, or Francis of Assisi.
