Moscow is the capital of the Russian Federation and with 11.6 million inhabitants the largest city, or 15.1 million the largest agglomeration in Europe.

Moscow is the political, economic, scientific and cultural center of Russia, with universities and institutes as well as numerous churches, theaters, museums and galleries. In the urban area are some of the highest European high-rise buildings and the prominent Seven Sisters, as well as the 540-meter-high Ostankino Tower, the tallest building in Europe. Moscow is the seat of the Russian Orthodox Church, the patriarch resides in the Danilov Monastery and the largest Russian Orthodox Church building is the Moscow Cathedral of Christ the Savior. There are more than 300 churches in Moscow.

The Kremlin and the Red Square in the center of Moscow have been on the UNESCO list of World Cultural Heritage since 1990. With eight long-distance stations, three international airports and three inland ports, the city is the most important traffic hub and the largest industrial city in Russia.
